In fond memory of Rolf Torhaug, Norwegian star florist…

The sad news has reached us that Rolf Torhaug is no longer among us. Mr Torhaug was a widely cherished floral arranger, who radiated joy and left his mark on the industry far beyond his country of birth. On behalf of Florint’s President and Board, we express our deepest sympathy and condolences to his life partner, his family and his friends.

Rolf Torhaug was a two-time Norwegian florist champion, as well as a former board member of FLORINT, and of Interflora Norway and the Norwegian Florist Association.

Those accomplishments are, in fact, only the tip of the iceberg. As a longtime friend of Mr Torhaug put it: “Rolf was floristry, and floristry was Rolf…”.

Rolf Torhaug

Over the course of his eventful life, which regrettably ended at the early age of 61, Mr Torhaug:

• Owned the flower shop “Kreativ Flora” in Oslo for over 33 years, together with his dear business partner Nils Norman Iversen
• Became Norwegian Champion in Floristry twice, in 1977 and 1981
• Won 6th place in the Europa Cup of Floristry in 1980
• Exhibited at the Henie Onstad Center of Modern Art in 1993
• Was on the board of Interflora and the Norwegian Florist Association for 20 years, including the last 12 years as President
• Was a Florint board member for two full terms, from 2004 until 2009
• Chaired the Norwegian Judges Council for many, many years
• Was a certified floristry judge, course teacher, and gave countless demonstrations
• And was given the coveted Norwegian Floristry award, and honorary membership of Interflora Norway

Rolf’s passion was an inspiration to many. His legacy lives on, in the form of fond memories and the enduring floristry institutions that he proudly helped to build.
