FTD partners with Florint for the World Cup 2019 judging process!

WorldCup2015Jury

Six expert florists from around the world have been appointed to judge the work of the 23 celebrated floral designers competing in the FTD World Cup 2019 in March in Philadelphia, USA. The Jury will employ Florint’s 100-Points System, and consists of these certified, international judges: Thomas Ratschker, Jury Chairman (Germany); Tomas De Bruyne (Belgium); Björn Kroner-Salié (Germany); Allan Jarden (New Zealand); Karen Barnes (United Kingdom) and Deborah De La Flor (United States).

All designs in the FTD World Cup competition will be evaluated using the Florint 100-Points International Judging System, which considers various key design parameters. It is the official system for judging floristry competitions, recognized worldwide. The Jury will evaluate each competitor’s piece individually for the first three criteria (idea, colour and composition). The fourth criteria (technique) will be assessed by all Jury members together. The four criteria must all be optimally met to achieve the maximum 100 points.

FTD World Cup 2019 Certified Jury Members

For the judging portion of this competition, FTD is partnering with Florint, which established this standardized scoring system. Florint is the non-profit international florist organization, which is composed of national florist associations from over 20 European countries plus member organisations from China and Korea. Florint is an important advocate for the professional florist and floral industry; promotes floristry education; organizes design competitions and works to continually professionalize floristry judging.

FTD World Cup 2019 Certified Jury Members

All of the Jury members are certified national judges, either through Florint or their own national floral organization. The Jury President for the FTD World Cup 2019 will be Thomas Ratschker: the current chairman of the jury for all of Florint’s own championships, as well as director of our Judges’ Certification project.

Thomas Ratschker | 🇩🇪 Chairman

Thomas Ratschker started his floristry career as a co-owner of two flower shops. After completing his training as a German ‘Florist Meister’, Thomas taught design, practice, botany and economics at various German vocational schools. In 2015, he served on the Technical Committee at the Fleurop-Interflora World Cup in Berlin. He is the lead member of Florint’s Assessment Committee on Judges’ Certification, and a worldwide auditor of Judges’ Certification Assessments. In 2015 and 2017, Thomas participated in the World Skills in Sao Paulo and Abu Dhabi as an expert in Floristry for Germany. He is also part of the board of education in Floristry for his homeland.
