Florint partners with UNIFLORIST to boost all facets of professional floristry in China

An ambitious partnership is being developed with UNIFLORIST, our new member association from China, with the aim to further professionalize floristry in the fast-growing country. The details of the arrangement have been worked out during a recent visit to China by Heinrich Göllner, Florint vice-president, and Simon Ogrizek, advisor to the president.

UNIFLORIST and Florint plan to aim high when it comes to developing professional floristry in China. Many important issues were, as a result, discussed during the recent visit to China by Florint’s delegation. They include the importance of education for the professional florist; the complexities of organizing floral design competitions and floral art judging, as well as the overall state of the industry.

Florist Inspiration & Florist Business

The 13th of July then saw a big event kick off at the Kunming Fair, with a floral business congress and a big floristry demonstration by Spanish master Alex Segura Arana. His pieces emphasized the importance of arrangement work that transcends fanciful design, by also being practical and ‘sellable’: an important principle for Florint.

International Florist Organisation was officially presented here as a vital new partner for UNIFLORIST, and UNIFLORIST in turn as Florint’s official representative in China, to tremendous applause and celebration. The Europa Cup 2020 – the upcoming European Florist Championship in Poland – was introduced to the large Chinese audience. Which clearly expressed its enthusiasm for sensational, big floral art events like this.

Florint’s delegation then travelled to Kunming for an official dinner with representatives of the Chamber of Economy of China, Kunming Trade Fair, as well as other influential local businesspeople. And visited the local Kunming Flower Market, which can almost rival the famous Dutch flower auction in size!

Education and Judges’ Certification

Back in Shanghai, they were shown the large plot of land where a ‘florist education center’ will have been erected just a year from now. Its impressive facilities will host the ambitious florist education programs that Florint and UNIFLORIST are developing. The city is also expected to host China’s first official Florint Judges Certification courses and exams in the coming year.

Our two representatives, lastly, attended a non-formal dinner with representatives of UNIFLORIST/CHINA FLOWER AND GARDENING NEWS (as the organisation is called in full) and their regional partner Interflora New Zealand. Here, too, future cooperation in the field of floristry was the main topic.
