On 8 & 9 April 2016, the European Florist Championship 2016 took place at the impressive ‘Magazzini del Cotone’ exhibition and conference centre in Genoa (Italy). It was an absolutely spectacular Europa Cup, with amazing floristry on display and a fantastic atmosphere in general. It was quite possibly the most succesful championship Florint has ever organized! Click the image below for our elaborate press release, which details everything that happened in Genoa and, of course, who won the European Championship!
The European Florist Championship helps to compare the skills and creativity of floral designers originating from various European countries, putting the continent’s absolute best in the spotlight. Additionally, the championship allows these florist professionals to get to know the latest trends and techniques in floristry. It thereby functions as an important stimulus for innovation in floral design.
The contest simultaneously helps to promote the florist’s image to the public and to spread the joy of flowers. It, thereby, helps to promote the consumption of flowers and plants as well. This type of publicity is invaluable to a sector like ours!
As a general rule, the Europa Cup takes place every four years. Exceptions are permissible, if the situation demands them, and are decided on a case by case basis by the Florint General Assembly.
One florist of each European country is allowed to take part in the Europa Cup. In exceptional cases, florists from non-European countries may also be accepted, if desired. In that case applications should be addressed to the Direction Committee of Florint. Getting in touch with our Association Manager is generally the fastest way of doing so.
The Europa Cup contestants are nominated by the national florist associations of Europa; the members of Florint. In countries where there is more than one member association, they should agree on the contestant or jointly organise a competition to decide on one. In countries where there is no member organisation of Florint yet, the Fleurop-Interflora Unit of the country concerned (or another organisation of professional florists) may apply for a place. Such applications should also be addressed to the Direction Committee of Florint.
