In this second gallery of pictures from the Havirov Festival, you will find a dozen photographs detailing the procession of flower-decorated cars and horse carriages. The theme remains the same: animals, but because of the presence of the florists in these pictures, we can now also get a feel for how the decorating process took place.

The 34th edition of the Ghent Floralies took place during the last week, once again organized by Belgium's Royal Agriculture and Horticulture Society. This splendid floral event takes place only every five years, and stands in a tradition that is over two centuries old. This year's incarnation proved to be as outstanding as always, as can be glimpsed from the selection of photographs we have to offer you.

From March 12th to 15th, the beautiful Royal Palace - as well as UNESCO World Heritage Site - 'La Venaria Reale', near Torino, was host to the Festival dei Fiori 2010. Below, you can find a set of pictures from the floral competition held there, which revolved around the theme of 'court life in the royal palaces of the 17th and 18th century'. Various European florist schools competed for the trophy, and it was the Floral Design School Nicole from Moscow that took it home in the end.

The FDF Trend agents created 4 series of artistic, yet consumer-oriented floral works, based on the trend prognoses published by the European floral and lifestyle suppliers association (EFSA) for the first six months of 2010. Headed by Manfred Hoffmann, they focused the emotional themes “moments of nature” and “passion in violet” on the family-oriented consumer. The design-oriented themes “Havanna nights” and “floral escapade” were focused on the business-oriented consumer.

Winner of the FDF NewComer Contest 2010 at the International Plant Fair IPM in Essen, Germany, is the talented master florist Elisabeth Schoenemann, working at Blumen Prinz in Mönchengladbach in Germany. She will represent her country at the international Eurofleurs 2010 in Britain, next July.

The floristry show entitled "Arte floral do Brazil" brought Brazilian fire on to the stage at the German IPM 2010. In a vivacious show, the florists from the land of the Sugar Loaf Mountain presented exotic floral arrangements and beautiful work pieces in which they had processed materials from their home country such as fruits and nuts.

With strong names like Black Queen, Anastasia, Cassis and Angel and exotic looks, new Anthurium flowers are created in a Dutch breeding program. These Flamingo Flowers give new inspiration and creative ideas for decoration in the first special Anthurium workshops, initiated by the German FDF and Flower Council Holland in the fall of 2009. Over 30 sorts of Anthurium are used in the extravagant works of art from Anthurium unlimited. They result in luxurious, trendy and exclusive floral arrangements, as you can see in this gallery.

Many florists enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere during the gala night of the renewed Floral Movement, which was held on Saturday, the 17th of October in theatre De Flint in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. The floral arrangements of the National Floral Junior Championship were shown on stage. Five regional teams gave their own, original performance consistent with the theme of ‘Friendship’.

On the 3rd and 4th of September the Russian Championship of Professional Floristry 2009 took place. The event was organized in partnership with Pavilion “Floriculture and Greenery” and International Exhibition “FLOWERS 2009", by the Russian National Guild of Florists, which chose for the uniting theme “How beautiful is that world...”.

It’s been an interesting weekend in Lillehammer, Norway at the Norwegian Floristry Championships. Fifteen senior competitors and twenty-one junior competitors, with less than four years experience, fought it out for the title of National Champion 2009. A group of judges from the UK Floristry Judges Guild went along to see the action-taking place.

Many visitors were present at the Buga Flower Show in Schwerin, Germany. Twelve floral teams demonstrated their creativity and floristic craft, but overall winner was Team Green of the school Hannover-Ahlem, followed by the Dresdner Floristic Institute DIF.

For the 4th time the Nordic Championship was held as a competition for the national teams of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Each team consists of four florists and during the competition each competitor has to do one of the four tasks.

The yearly Flower Arranging Event at Alden Biezen - Belgium, this year with the name "the Royal Edition", took place from the 18th till the 21st of September. In the gallery you get a good impression of the very many outstanding arrangements made by a selection of floral arrangers.

At this fall's Italian Flormart a positive atmosphere was noticed again after the difficult international economic situation. Exhibitors were content with the interest of visitors and rewarded the event in Padua with a good grade, also for the organisation, which received compliments of visitors and exhibitors regarding planning and implementation.

This year Florint's second board meeting of 2009 was held in July, enabling the board members to be present at the Tatton Park Flower Show. The members were quite positive about Tatton being the place for Eurofleurs 2010, as the show offers quite some interesting highlights for florists.

In the beginning of July in Kansas City the AIFD National Symposium took place. The American Institute of Floral Designers is a USA-based organization, affiliating far over 1000 florists in America as well as other parts of the world.

This year’s world renowned Chelsea Flower Show, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society of Great Britain, was a brilliant showcase for professional florists. In conjunction with the RHS the British Florist Association pulled out all the stops to get floristry competitions back into the main marquee at the show.

The 6th Master Class seminar, which was held from 29th of March till the 9th of April this year had the inspiring title “Spring starts from Greece!” This successfully seminar was organized this year by Interflora Hellas and meant to offer a high and expert education to all pioneer florist designers. This year the championship of florists in the Czech Republic was organized within the framework of the famous Decin Festivities. Decin is the largest town in the Děčín District in the north of the Czech Republic. Some pictures of this competition can be seen in the gallery.

EuroSkills 2008, the first ever Europe-wide skills competition, organized in Rotterdam (NL) has been a great success. The 420 candidates from the 29 participating European countries finished their three days of competitions on Saturday 20th September . The floristry competition at EuroSkills, with 22 particicpants from11 countres, was an initiave of Florint.

One of the tasks of the EuroSkills floristry competition was to decorate a live model. The participants managed to create a variety of astonishing floral decorations. The models toured the entire fair grounds several times and also had a performance on stage. Amongst the public and press there was much enthusiasm about these beautiful flower girls.

The 2008 edition of the youth contest Eurofleurs was quite a succesful one. Visitors almost couldn’t believe their eyes: the young contestants at this junior championship made floral work of an outstanding level. Especially amongst the theme works and the bridal bouquet, that could partially be prepared at home, there were very special creations.
