Promotion of vocational education and training and craftsmanship in EU-countries is necessary and becoming more and more important. An interesting instrument to promote skills is organising a series of skills competitions - from local to regional, national to international. This gives young candidates the opportunity to get involved in competitions at an early stage. At the same time, it is a means to combine individual initiatives from educational institutions and industries involved in the promotion of skills and vocational education.
The new skills competition EuroSkills aims to create such a platform for the promotion of the skilled workforce, and of skills and vocational education in Europe. EuroSkills as an event will contribute in raising the status of vocational education and craftsmanship in Europe on a strategic basis. Thereafter the event will be organised every two years by a European Member State, alternating with WorldSkills. The first issue of EuroSkills 2008 took place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, mid September 2008.
Florint, together with the educational network Flornet, organized a group competition for young florists during EuroSkills 2008. 11 countries took part in this challenging and interesting competition. A review of this competition, and the subsequent incarnations of EuroSkills, can be found on the EuroSkills sub-pages accessible through the Events drop-down menu.
