EuroSkills 2010 Floristry Competition

The first prize in the floristry competition at EuroSkills 2010, taking place in Lisbon from December 9th till 12th, has been awarded to the Norwegian team.

Norwegian pro florists Carina Enger and Marit Iren Mythe managed to stay ahead of the competition, although by a small margin. Malin Lindskog and Kristof Remes, representing one of the other Scandinavian powerhouses, Sweden, were forced to settle for second place in the end. Third place and the corresponding bronze medal went to Zygmunt Sieradzan and Tomasz Kuczynski, of the Polish floristry team. “Medallions of Excellence” were awarded to the Finnish, Hungarian and Slovakian two-man teams, moreover.

Toine Zwitserlood, General Secretary of Florint and one of the organizers of the EuroSkills event, commented: “In the course of the contest it became more and more clear that the Scandinavian countries were doing quite well, but also Poland, Austria and Hungary were towards the top of the classification”.

He continued: “The two difficult last test projects the young competitors had to make, however, were decisive: the big decoration for on the stage during the prize giving ceremony of EuroSkills and the bridal decoration on live models, which needed to consist of two matching pieces. After these works had been finished, the professional public already had the idea that it might well be Norway or perhaps Sweden that would take the prize. But all needed to wait another day, until the prize giving ceremony, before the final results would be made known, when of course Norway was announced as the winner.”
